About
Frederick's Merry Tuba Christmas is the Saturday after Thanksgiving at The Weinberg Center for the Arts. As with previous years, due to lack of stage space we must cap player participation to 100 people.
It all started with Harvey Phillips. He had a dream of a concert that featured the bass instruments instead of hiding them in the background.
In 2001 Patsy participated in her first Tuba Christmas concert with her father, a life-long tuba player, and daughter at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Harvey Phillips, himself, was there and graced the crowd singing "Santa Wants a Tuba For Christmas." It was a unique experience and on the drive home she said "Frederick should have a Tuba Christmas concert." The very next year we had 15 players outside Evangelical Lutheran Church in downtown Frederick. It's been a family affair with three generations playing every year, Patsy's husband is the Master of Ceremonies and other family members and friends volunteer to make the event a success every year. We've grown to the point of filling the Weinberg Center for the Arts the Saturday after Thanksgiving as a kick off to the holiday season. Audience admission is a monetary or non-perishable canned goods to the local food bank.
We will be adhering to the City of Frederick’s COVID-19 Response guidelines at the time of the event.
